    Timid people are shy, nervous, and have no courage or confidence in themselves.

    e.g. A timid child, Isabella had learned obedience at an early age.

2. 犹豫不决的;瞻前顾后的
    If you describe someone's attitudes or actions as timid, you are criticizing them for being too cautious or slow to act, because they are nervous about the possible consequences of their actions.

    e.g. The President's critics say he has been too timid in responding to changing international developments...
           批评总统的人认为他在应对风云变幻的国际局势时过于瞻前顾后。
    e.g. The newspaper called the plan timid and unimaginative.
           该报称这一计划谨小慎微，毫无想象力。
